LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paris Hilton says she's "learning and growing" in jail and has told her lawyers NOT to appeal her sentence for violating probation.
In a statement yesterday, the socialite thanked fans who had mailed her with good wishes, and said she was shocked at the attention her case has received.
Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail but will probably serve about 23. She was jailed for a few days before the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department decided to remove her from the cell because of concerns over her psychological state. She was placed under house arrest at her Hollywood Hills estate for a day before a judge on Friday ordered her back to the slammer.
Hilton is staying in the medical ward of a downtown jail through the weekend until authorities decided where to place her.
