VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - The California Maritime Academy is mourning the death of a cadet in a hiking fall while ashore in Vietnam.
A spokeswoman for the Vallejo academy says 21-year-old Cadet Benjamin Daviscourt was hiking in the mountains yesterday when he went ahead of his fellow students.
The group found Daviscourt's body after a two-hour search. He had fallen about 100 feet.
Daviscourt was one of more than 200 Cal Maritime cadets on a summer training cruise.
The ship's crew was in Vietnam to deliver humanitarian goods collected by an Oakland foundation -- including dental and hospital equipment.
