TRACY, Calif. (AP) - A public memorial service has been planned for the 8-year-old Northern California girl whose body was found in a suitcase in a pond after she disappeared near her home.
Tracy police announced at a news conference Thursday that Sandra Cantu's family has arranged a service for their daughter on April 16. The service will take place in the gymnasium at Merrill F. West High School. It is open to the public.
Sandra disappeared on March 27. Her body was found in a suitcase on Monday by farmworkers draining an irrigation pond.
Police spokesman Sgt. Tony Sheneman says the department has received about 1,800 tips in the case.
He also said the focus of the investigation has narrowed but police have not named any suspects.
