TRACY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities searching for a missing 8-year-old girl in Northern California plan to open a container that was found a few miles from where the girl disappeared in the next few hours.
The black container was discovered Monday in a Tracy irrigation pond. Tracy Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman says there is no evidence there is anyone inside although authorities have called the item suspicious.
It was found about 2 miles from the mobile home park where Sandra Cantu was last seen on March 27.
Sheneman says authorities are in the process of completing their investigation of the area around the pond.
Local, state and federal investigators searching for Cantu have been called to the scene. Authorities say the pond had previously been searched.
