Sacramento: Mayor Probe Jeopardizes Federal Money

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The city of Sacramento is notifying federal agencies that Mayor Kevin Johnson is on a list of people forbidden from receiving federal money.

The prohibition includes millions of dollars in funding in the economic stimulus bill.

A city-hired attorney concluded last week that Sacramento likely is prohibited from receiving federal money because of allegations about the operation of a nonprofit Johnson founded.

Federal authorities placed Johnson and his nonprofit Hood Corps on the banned list last year because of allegations that it misused up to $807,000 in federal money.

City Manager Ray Kerridge said Sacramento is issuing retroactive disclosures to federal agencies that have given the city about $30
million since Johnson took office in December.
