COTATI, Calif. (AP) - The son of Merced County's district
attorney is under arrest on suspicion of manslaughter and drunk
driving after a crash killed a 22-year-old man.
The California Highway Patrol said 18-year-old Dylan Morse ran a
red light Saturday near Cotati in Sonoma County and broadsided a
The Honda's driver, Alexander Ruiz of Richmond, was pronounced
dead at the scene.
Merced County District Attorney Larry Morse II released a
statement Sunday expressing his sorrow over the crash.
Morse's passenger, 19-year-old Ryne Spitzer of Merced, was
hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The Honda's passenger,
25-year-old Vanessa King of Berkeley, was being treated for major
injuries not considered life-threatening.
Morse, who was uninjured, is being held in Sonoma County Jail in
lieu of $100,000 bail.
