SoCal Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Attack

POMONA, Calif. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to eight years in
prison for slashing his girlfriend with a box cutter.

Jose Rodriguez of Pomona pleaded guilty to a single count of mayhem last week as part of a plea agreement. Prosecutors dismissed one count of attempted murder.

The 24-year-old attacked Susana Mendoza in August and she had
injuries to her abdomen, back, hand and chest.

One of his roommates testified at an earlier hearing that she heard some yelling and then saw Rodriguez covered in blood as he left his bedroom.

Prosecutors didn't say what the motive was for the attack.
