LOS ANGELES (AP) - A San Fernando Valley man who raped and
killed a 60-year-old grandmother before dumping her body in the
desert in 2004 has been sentenced to death.
A jury convicted Paul Wesley Baker on March 19 of first-degree
murder in the death of Judy Palmer. The 47-year-old Baker once
dated Palmer, who disappeared nearly four years ago.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Susan M. Speer on Friday rejected
a motion for a new trial and a motion to reduce the sentence to
life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Baker was convicted of five other counts, including forcible
rape, first-degree residential burglary and grand theft auto.
