LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police are searching for suspects
in the killing of a 4-year-old boy who was shot on a sidewalk on
his street near downtown.
Authorities say they have made no arrests as of this morning.
Police say Roberto Lopez was walking yesterday afternoon with other children from his home in the Echo Park area to a community center down the block when multiple shots were fired from about 100 yards away by an unknown assailant.
Lt. John Romero says the boy was hit once in the upper torso and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Romero says the boy was not the intended target.
Police told the Los Angeles Times the gunfire came from people on foot toward a car heading south on the street where Lopez was standing.
