Man Arrested In Connection With Toddler's Shooting

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the accidental shooting of a 2-year-old boy.

Authorities say Sergio Sanchez turned himself in Friday.

The toddler was fatally shot in the chest by his 12-year-old cousin who found the rifle in the garage. Sanchez owned the rifle.

Captain Carl Estelle of the East Palo Alto Police Department says the family had asked Sanchez to get rid of the weapon. Sanchez is a family friend who was staying at the home.

Sanchez is a one-time deported felon and was arrested for storing a firearm in a place accessible by children. He was also arrested for being a felon in possession of firearm and violating probation.
