EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - East Palo Alto police say a 2-year-old boy was killed after a 12-year-old relative accidentally shot him while playing with a rifle.
The toddler, Andrew Grewe, died at the hospital shortly before midnight Thursday.
Authorities say the older boy had found the rifle hidden under a dresser in the garage. They say he didn't realize it was loaded and
pulled the trigger, shooting Andrew in the chest.
The parents of the 12-year-old told investigators that they didn't know the gun was there. About nine people were either living or visiting the home at the time.
The youth and five of his siblings have been taken into protective custody, while police continue their investigation.
No one has been arrested in the incident.
