LOS BANOS, Calif. (AP) - As the foreclosure rate continues to skyrocket, two agencies that help the poor are facing homelessness
Records show that the property of the Los Banos Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army has been in foreclosure since August. Property owner Victory Outreach is $68,548 behind on payments.
The Rev. Steve Hammond of the Salvation Army said they're doing what they can to keep it going.
Hammond is talking with the city about zoning an area for homeless services, which would allow the rescue mission to apply for grants. He hopes to buy the property and fears a new owner could have other plans for the buildings.
