HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) - The 22-year-old Hayward man shot and killed by a BART police officer will be laid to rest today.
A funeral service is set for this morning (11:00 ) for Oscar Grant at the Palma Ceia Baptist Church in Hayward.
Grant was fatally shot New Year's Day by a BART police officer after police had responded to reports of fighting on a train.
Meanwhile, family members have filed a $25 million wrongful death claim against the transit agency.
The claim sent yesterday to BART alleges illegal seizure and excessive force were used in Grant's death.
An attorney representing the family says Grant's civil rights were violated and he posed no threat when he was shot on the platform in Oakland.
BART has 45 days to accept or reject the claim.
