SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) - A mother and her newborn daughter are
doing fine after the baby was delivered on the San Leandro BART station platform.
Alameda County paramedics and firefighters helped 21-year-old Hayward resident Jessica Bennett deliver her baby, Jayda, Friday
Bennett was taking her 2-year-old son to a relative's house before she planned to go to the hospital where she was supposed to deliver her child.
But officials say instead she delivered the baby at the station and was then taken with her 6-pound, 2-ounce daughter to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
BART spokesman Linton Johnson says there have only been two other births on record at BART stations, one in 1996 and the other in 2005.
