SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities are looking for an inmate who was
mistakenly released from a San Diego County jail after he switched jail wristbands with an inmate scheduled for release.
The sheriff's office announced Friday that 50-year-old Tuan Tran has been at large for three weeks. Sgt. Russ Moore says an announcement was not made earlier because Tran is not deemed a
Tran, who was serving time for burglary and fraud, was released Oct. 9 from the George Bailey Detention Facility. Authorities say he apparently swapped wristbands with an inmate who has the same last name and similar looks. When bail was posted for the other inmate, Tran mistakenly was released.
Moore says the escape was realized a few hours later when the mother of the inmate who was supposed to be released called the jail asking where her son was. ---
