CARSON, Calif. (AP) - A suspected gang member has been shot in
Carson after allegedly pointing a weapon at a probation officer.
Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Byron Ward says the 17-year-old youth, whose name isn't being released, is in critical condition.
Investigators say a sheriff's sergeant, a detective and a county probation officer were working a gang suppression detail in Compton
Thursday evening when they encountered four males believed to be
Ward says one of them fled on foot and pulled a revolver from his waist, ignoring orders to drop the weapon and surrender. While trying to hide in a Carson yard, the teen allegedly pointed the weapon at the probation officer.
Ward says the probation officer then fired.
