VISTA, Calif. (AP) - The caretaker of an 84-year-old man suffering from Parkinson's disease has been charged with leaving the man in a van while she and her husband gambled at a San Diego casino.
Tessie Magan and her husband Donnie Magan have been charged with
one count each of elder abuse. They pleaded not guilty Wednesday in
Vista Superior Court.
San Diego County prosecutors say a security guard at the Valley View Casino spotted the elderly man unresponsive inside the vehicle Saturday and called authorities.
Firefighters had to smash a window to rescue him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was kept overnight before being released. Prosecutors say he had been inside the van for about 90 minutes in
the late afternoon.
Tessie Magan is being held on $50,000 bail. Her husband was released on his own recognizance.
