BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced
to prison for beating to death an 81-year-old man in Bakersfield.
Nathaniel Johnson Jr. was given 25 years to life on Friday but he was tried as a juvenile and can only be held until he is 25-years-old.
Prosecutors say he was among five boys who beat Ezequiel Perez
as he collected aluminum cans in June.
Authorities say they stole his cans, then returned and beat him again.
Two other boys pleaded guilty to murder and were given the same
sentence last month. A third boy was declared incompetent to stand
trial because he is mentally disabled.
Trial for the final alleged attacker, a 15-year-old boy, begins in November.
