NTSB Trying To Determine If Weather Played Factor In Fossett Crash

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. (AP) - Safety officials investigating the death of Steve Fossett are trying to determine if weather played a factor on the day his plane crashed into the side of a mountain.

It was clear when Fossett took off from a ranch in Nevada the morning of the crash, but large stormclouds were reported over the peaks around Mammoth Lakes later that day.

Meanwhile, search crews are hoping to recover evidence -- such
as plane parts -- from the crash site before a storm moves into the
area.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain in the area tonight, with snow expected in the higher elevations.
