REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Body Glove founder Bob Meistrell is
offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the return of a
bronze bust of surfing pioneer George Freeth that was stolen from the Redondo Beach pier this week.
The sculpture was taken on Wednesday from the pier, where it has
sat since 1977. Freeth is credited with bringing surfing to the United States from Hawaii 100 years ago.
Meistrell, who owns a surf shop in Redondo Beach, is distributing reward posters to other local surf shops and scrapyards where the statue might turn up.
Police had no new leads as of Friday.
