CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have identified the gunman killed by a security guard this week at a festival in Carson.
Witnesses say 20-year-old Daniel Lotaki opened fire on a crowd at the Samoan Flag Day festival on Wednesday, wounding three people. Sheriff's deputies say Lotaki was shot when he fired at a security guard who was chasing him.
The wounded included a woman and two boys, ages 12 and 13. Their
wounds were not life-threatening.
Lotaki had a police record. A prosecutor in Contra Costa County says he was tried for armed robbery earlier this year for allegedly pistol-whipping a man and taking his wallet.
However, a mistrial was declared when the jury deadlocked.
