ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - A 78-year-old Alameda man is dead after police say he was struck by a sport utility vehicle that forced another woman to jump to safety as it careened down a pedestrian walkway.
Police Lt. David Boersma says 36-year-old Dionisio Molina of Alameda was driving a Jeep Cherokee down the waterfront walkway early Saturday morning when the victim was hit.
The Alameda County Coroner's office identified the pedestrian as George Marceline. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boersma says police tracked down the SUV after a woman called
police to say it nearly hit her.
Police say Molina ran into several stop signs and light poles before being arrested blocks from where Marceline was struck.
Molina is being held on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
