EL CENTRO, Calif. (AP) - An Orange County man who allegedly shot
his estranged wife and kidnapped his 9-year-old son may be in Mexico.
Authorities say a purple-and-gold motor home rented by Lonnie Ramos was found this morning in the tiny border town of Andrade - and a witness claims he saw Ramos and the boy walking into Mexico two days ago.
It's unclear why the witness waited so long to report seeing a man who's been the subject of a statewide Amber Alert manhunt for days.
Authorities say Ramos shot his wife in the face on Wednesday as she arrived at his home in Portola Hills to pick up their son Ryan after a visit.
She's expected to survive.
Court records indicate that Ramos and his wife had been locked in a bitter divorce and custody battle for several years.
