LOS ANGELES (AP) - Movie star Will Smith's new private school
will use instructional methods developed by the Church of Scientology, and a few teachers belong to the church.
New Village Academy's director Jacqueline Olivier says some staffers are Scientologists, Muslim, Christian or Jewish. She says the school has no religious affiliation.
But the school will use a method developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard called study technology.
Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith - who founded the school together - say they are not Scientologists.
In addition to reading and math, the school offers classes on yoga, robotics and etiquette.
New Village Academy is to open Sept. 3 in Calabasas.
