Officials say a female beachgoer was run over and seriously injured by a lifeguard vehicle on a crowded Manhattan Beach.
Los Angeles County Lifeguard Capt. Terry Harvey says the accident victim -- whose name and age have not been released -- was partly buried in the sand when she was run over on Saturday afternoon.
Lifeguard spokesman Garth Cannings says the vehicle ran over her legs and her injuries "appear serious."
Extra lifeguards have been stationed on Southern California beaches this weekend as large crowds head to the ocean to escape triple-digit temperatures.
