Hayward Police Issue Warning After Series Of Sexual Assaults

HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) - Hayward police want women to beware after
a series of recent sexual assaults in the city.

Police say five women -- including two this week -- have been assaulted in Hayward in separate attacks near the center of town.

Three women were raped, one fought off her attacker and one was
apparently spared when the assailant was startled by a passer-by
and fled.

The first assault was in February, but police are concerned because of the increase in the frequency of the attacks.

A police spokesman says sexual assaults have been rare in Hayward.

CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
