REDDING, Calif. (AP) - Shasta County authorities say two people were taken to a hospital with what are described as non-life threatening injuries after at least one California Highway Patrol officer opened fire on the occupants of a pickup truck during a confrontation in Shasta County.
Sheriff's Lt. Dave Kent says at least one of two CHP officers fired at the pickup with three people inside following a police chase in Cottonwood around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Two of the occupants of the truck - one man and one woman - were taken to the hospital, but Kent said it was not clear if they had been hit by gunfire, or injured by glass fragments.
Kent had no information on their conditions, their ages or other details, but did say the woman was pregnant.
Kent did not know what prompted the CHP to open fire, but said a gun was found in the pickup.
