2 Deadly Freeway Crashes Near Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES (AP) - California Highway Patrol officers wrapping up a deadly Los Angeles freeway crash ran to the scene of a second nearby crash and pulled a man from a burning car.

The man pulled from the car died at the scene.

The first of the back-to-back crashes on State Route 134 occurred at 12:30 a.m. Monday. A man was killed but crash details haven't been released.

City News Service says about two hours later a car slammed into the rear of another vehicle, burst into flames and careened off the freeway, killing the driver.

Eastbound lanes of State Route 134 at Interstate 5 were shut down for hours, backing up traffic for more than a mile.

The freeway reopened at about 6 a.m.
