MONTE RIO, Calif. (AP) - A man vacationing with his family at the Russian River died after entering the Russian River in an attempt to save his daughter.
Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman says 39-year-old Carlos Manzo
of Oakland was trying to help his 10-year-old daughter, who was
having trouble swimming.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department says a bystander rushed
into the river to save the girl, but when she went back to help Manzo, he was gone.
A firefighter later found Manzo in the river and tried to resuscitate him, but Manzo had been underwater too long.
