Searchers Look For 67-Year-Old Woman In SoCal Desert

Searchers have been looking for a 67-year-old woman hiker reported missing in the Southern California desert.

Authorities say the woman became separated from her hiking companion on Saturday afternoon in the Piute Canyon area of the Mojave National Preserve, about 40 miles northwest of Needles. Her name has not been released.

Nearly 20 searchers from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the National Parks Service have been combing the area on foot. A county helicopter was brought in to assist.

Cpl. Pat Murch in the sheriff's Needles station said the search will resume at daylight Tuesday.
