Hiker Missing In Remote Sierra Nevada Wilderness Area

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - The body of a 78-year-old hiker
who was missing in the Sierra Nevada wilderness has been found.

A spokesman with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department says
Jerome Smith was found Saturday near the shore of Eagle Lake.

He was about a mile from the campsite where his hiking companion, 70-year-old Thomas Hylton, was found dead of natural causes on Friday.

Authorities say it appears Smith fell while trying to get help for his friend.

They say the pair had been camping in the area since Monday and
were scheduled to return home Thursday. Both men are from Lincoln.
