SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say a San Diego police officer fatally shot a 23-year-old robbery suspect after the man pointed a gun at him.
San Diego police Lt. Terry McManus says officers were sent to a
market in the Golden Hill area Friday night to investigate a robbery.
Witnesses pointed out a suspect walking away from the market.
McManus says when the officer ordered the suspect to stop, he
turned round and pointed a gun at the officer.
The officer opened fire and shot the suspect in the abdomen. He
was declared dead soon after.
McManus says the officer is a veteran of 14 years.
The suspect's identity was withheld until his next of kin had been notified.
