SACRAMENTO (AP) - The Sacramento Kings could be moving to a new
arena at the state fairgrounds.
Negotiators for the National Basketball Association and Cal Expo have agreed to ask developers for proposals to turn the 360-acre fairgrounds into a mixed-use and entertainment development that
would include a Kings arena.
The Kings currently play at Arco Arena north of Sacramento. But they say the site is deteriorating and outdated.
NBA Commissioner David Stern and former Gov. Pete Wilson, the lead negotiator for Cal Expo, will present Friday's tentative agreement to the Cal Expo board of directors May 21.
The NBA's plan would add enough development to Cal Expo to pay for the new 17,000- to 20,000-seat arena.
