LOS ANGELES (AP) - A motorist fleeing police drove off a jetty into harbor waters and then tried to swim away from pursuers before
finally giving up early Friday.
Larry Brooks, 23, was booked for investigation of felony evading
after he was pulled from the water, police said.
Police said officers spotted a car running a red light around 1:30 a.m. and chased it onto the Harbor Freeway and then to the port, where it flew off a jetty.
Sgt. Jim Lewis said the man stood on the roof of the floating car, took off his shirt, dove into the water and swam around eluding officers for about 10 to 15 minutes. He finally was coaxed onto a fireboat and arrested.
The sunken car was later retrieved.
