Oakland Police Fataly Shoot Robbery Suspect During Chase

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A robbery suspect is dead after officers
opened fire during a chase in which police say he wrecked a stolen
car, broke into a house and kidnapped a man while trying to escape.

Oakland police Officer Roland Holmgren said officers shot and killed the 21-year-old suspect late Saturday morning.

Police said the man robbed a rental car franchise in Alameda and
stole a rental car, which he crashed after fleeing to Oakland.

He then allegedly broke into a house and forced a man inside to drive him away. The resident managed to escape from the car, and officer shot the suspect after the car collided with a police cruiser.

Authorities did not release the suspect's name but said he also had warrants in El Cerrito for home invasion and carjacking.
