LONG BEACH (AP) - Five people have been hospitalized with minor
injuries sustained during a post-Long Beach Grand Prix concert that
drew over 50 officers in riot gear.
Fire officials say it's unknown if the five were hurt at Saturday night's Pennywise concert or during the altercation with officers summoned to control an unruly crowd trying to get into the full-capacity performance.
Long Beach police Officer Jackie Bezart says the officers arrived after people turned away from the concert on the lawn of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center began throwing bottles at police.
Long Beach resident Jeremy Fishel says he saw police hitting people with clubs and watched officers use a Taser on a 40- or 50-year-old man.
Bezart says she has no reports of police using Tasers.
