CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) - The driver of a stolen SUV led
California Highway Patrol officers on an extremely high-speed chase
through three counties today before abruptly surrendering.
A KCBS-KCAL TV news helicopter showed the woman being arrested
without incident shortly after noon on Interstate 5 at Camp Pendleton. There is no immediate information on her identity.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a car rental agency in Anaheim at 10:40 a.m. and was spotted in East Los Angeles about 15 minutes later.
CHP Officer Vince Ramirez says the SUV was in the process of being rented when the woman took off with the vehicle.
The SUV whipped through traffic on interstates in eastern Los Angeles County, raced south through Orange County and finally entered San Diego County before it pulled over and came to a stop.
