OC Sheriff's Deputy Who Revealed Grand Jury Testimony Fired

An Orange County sheriff's deputy who told an investigator about an inmate beating death investigation has been fired.

Sheriff's Department spokesman John McDonald told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday that Monica Bagalayos was dismissed last week.

McDonald says Bagalayos was on probation and such employees can
be terminated for any reason.

Bagalayos declined to comment to the Times.

Bagalayos was one of several department members who were called
to testify before the grand jury reviewing the 2006 death of John
Derek Chamberlain at Theo Lacy jail.

During her second appearance, she admitted that she spoke with an investigator in the internal affairs unit at least twice on her first day of testimony.
