Gunman Wounded During Glendale Cemetery Standoff

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a gunman who may have killed his wife was shot and wounded this morning during a pre-dawn standoff with police at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

Thirty-eight-year-old Rene Munoz of Los Angeles is hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

The LAPD says Munoz is suspected of shooting his wife, 37-year-old Kelly McCowen, during a dispute in the parking lot of a bowling alley in Los Angeles' Wilshire area last night.

She died at a hospital.

Less than two hours later, a report of shots being fired sent Glendale police to the cemetery that straddles the suburb's border with Los Angeles.

Forest Lawn security guards told arriving officers there was a suspicious black Cadillac Escalade parked on some grass next to
graves.

As officers approached the car, a shot was fired. Police then sealed off the cemetery.

After about three hours, the man suddenly drove the SUV down a
hill toward officers at a high rate of speed. That's when officers
opened fire.
