Man Dies in SoCal Soapbox Race

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man has died after the homemade soapbox he
was riding down a San Fernando Valley street during a race spun out
of control and crashed into a parked car.

Police Sgt. Jim Mascola says the incident took place around 7:40 a.m. Sunday in Tarzana.

Other racers tell The Associated Press the victim was 21 years old.

They say he was one of about 35 members of the San Fernando
Valley Illegal Soapbox Federation out for an early morning downhill
race.
