With John McCain as the likely G-O-P presidential nominee his supporters are targeting the difficult task of figuring out how to win California -- a state that has not gone Republican in a presidential race in 20 years.
While the Arizona senator has appealed to independent voters in others states -- much the way Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has done here -- Californians have not supported a G-O-P presidential candidate since 1988.
And there are crucial differences between McCain and Schwarzenegger.
The two men have different positions on abortion. Schwarzenegger
supports abortion rights while McCain wants to ban the procedure.
Also, McCain has been one of the strongest supporters of the war in Iraq but California is one of the most anti-war states.
