LA Police In Gunbattle With Suspects In Gang Violence Outbreak

Police say a man shot while carrying a toddler earlier today in L-A's Glassell Park area has died at a hospital.

L-A-P-D Officer Jason Lee says the man, who was hit multiple times in the midday shooting, was pronounced dead around 6:30 p.m.

Police say the toddler had unspecified injuries from being dropped, but was not hit by gunfire.

Police say that shooting was the first of two by suspected gang members that led to a gunbattle in which police killed one gunman and wounded another.

A third suspect was arrested later in the day for investigation of murder. A fourth suspect remains at large.

Two schools in the Glassell Park area were locked down for hours and neighborhood residents were ordered to stay inside during the search that lasted into the evening.
