Blue Lake Police Chief Stays Jailed on Rape Charges

A judge has ordered Blue Lake Police Chief David Gundersen to stay in jail on rape charges.

A Humboldt County Superior Court judge denied Gundersen's request to be released on his own recognizance.

Gundersen pleaded not guilty earlier this week to 12 counts of spousal rape and three other counts stemming from alleged offenses since he's been in police custody.

Gundersen's defense lawyer argued should be released because of
his long history in law enforcement and his lack of a criminal record.

Blue Lake has just over 1,000 residents and is located 15 miles northeast of Eureka.
