A man is in critical condition after gunfire erupted from a sedan that pulled up alongside his car on a Richmond freeway.
Police said the victim was shot three or four times Sunday afternoon while driving east on Interstate 580.
Richmond police Lt. Michael Booker said a woman and a toddler also in the victim's car suffered no injuries.
The vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the freeway after the shooting. The victim was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
Booker said police do not yet know how many of the four people in the silver four-door sedan fired shots. Authorities had no suspects, and the make and model of the car wasn't known, he said.
