Air Force to Destroy Abandoned Mojave Desert Military Bunker

The Air Force plans to destroy an abandoned military bunker in the Mojave Desert where a teen couple were killed execution-style earlier this month.

Linda Geissinger, a spokeswoman for the Air Force's Real Property Agency, said it's awaiting clearance from the San Bernardino County district attorney's office to demolish the bunker by the fall.

The bunker sits on the former Hawes Auxiliary Army Airfield. It has been abandoned since the mid-1980s and has become a graffiti-scarred hangout for youths.

Eighteen-year-old Christopher Cody Thompson and his 16-year-old
girlfriend Bodhisattva Sherzer-Potter were shot at the bunker on
January 5th.

Arrested in connection with the slayings were Collin Lee McGlaughlin, 18, and David Brian Smith, 19. Both are charged with murder, kidnapping and attempted robbery.
