Beane Defines A's Direction Toward Youth And Development

Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane says the team's movement toward youth and development is a sign home run king Barry Bonds probably isn't in the plans.

Beane wouldn't comment directly on whether Bonds may join the A's when he spoke today at A's Fan Fest.

The A's had interest in the 43-year-old free agent slugger before he was indicted in November on perjury and obstruction of justice charges stemming from his 2003 grand jury testimony that he never knowingly took steroids.

But Oakland's recent trades have made it clear that the team is committed to building toward the future.

Oakland was 76-86 last season after reaching the AL championship
series in 2006.
