Police are searching for an apparently suicidal man who was discharged from a Los Angeles hospital soon after officers found him hanging by his neck in a holding cell and brought him in for evaluation.
Police had not found the 21-year-old by early Sunday, and were
fearing for his safety.
The man was brought to a south Los Angeles station on Friday for
questioning in an ongoing investigation.
That evening, officers found him hanging from a noose in his holding cell and brought him to California Hospital Medical Center.
Police say hospital officials discharged him less than two hours later without seeking additional medical help for him.
County Mental Health Department law enforcement director Linda Boyd says she's disturbed by the hospital's actions.
Hospital spokeswoman Katreena Salgado was unable to comment
Sunday because she was not aware of the incident.
