The California Highway Patrol says multiple people have major injuries from a freeway pileup in dense fog that reportedly involved more than 20 vehicles.
The wreck occurred around 8:15 a.m. on the Highway 166 off ramp
from Interstate 5 near Buttonwillow, south of Bakersfield.
The CHP says the accident started when someone rear-ended a big-rig as patches of thick seasonal fog obscured visibility on the heavily traveled roadway.
That triggered a chain reaction of crashes all the way across the Highway 166 bridge over I-5.
None of the injuries were reported as fatal.
