State Senate Leader Perata's Stolen Car Found

Richmond police say they have found the car that was stolen from State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata at gunpoint.

Richmond police Sgt. Louie Tirona says the government-issued car
was recovered in good condition late Saturday night following the
afternoon robbery.

Tirona says the red 2006 Dodge Charger will be processed for prints and evidence. No arrests have been made.

Perata told the Associated Press that a masked man tapped on the
window of his car with a gun while he was waiting at a red light in
North Oakland.

The carjacker told him to get out of the car, and Perata said he immediately complied and got out on the street. He was not injured.

The suspects likely did not recognize Perata, who was waiting to
get on the freeway, Oakland police said.
