Complaints about smoke blowing into classrooms led the college to tighten its smoking policy. Oxnard College had followed state law which states smokers cannot light up within 20 feet of a window or door.
College president Richard Duran says secondhand smoke was too
bothersome to too many students and faculty members.
Oxnard's policy now is in line with Moorpark College, which has restricted smoking to parking lots since 2005. Ventura College will
keep its policy following state law.
Health centers at all three Ventura County colleges offer no-smoking programs and provide free nicotine patches and gum.
